“Scavenging of Labile Heme by Hemopexin Is a Key Checkpoint in Cancer Growth and Metastases” by Canesin, Di Ruscio et al…
Our paper was also featured on the Cover of September 22, 2020 issue!
On the cover: Chlorophyll and heme are the two most important pigments for life on Earth: chlorophyll enables plants to generate oxygen, and heme is part of hemoglobin and carries oxygen in animal bodies. Canesin et al. show that alteration of labile heme scavenging is a feature of human prostate cancer. Free heme promotes tumor growth and metastases by binding to G-quadruplex DNA structures to drive oncogene expression. The cover image by Barbara Wegiel depicts “heme-pigmented” trees.
